The relationship between me and Facebook

Now let me be clear. I don't hate Facebook. I just have never understood it nor really found any use for it since I was 11. Facebook was a cool way to stay in touch with my friends and family from India, so in that way I can even relate to the idea of Facebook being a helpful thing that can bring people closer together and keep communication with loved ones in distant places. I just think that somewhere along the lines the usefulness, Facebook and social media in general became lost in the digital smorgasbord that is the internet.

I find that people spend time on their phones rather than doing productive tasks. I am one of those people. Even now while I’m writing this, I probably have looked at my phone 20 times. I don’t like I have had to look at my phone, but there is something addicting about social media and Facebook. There are reasons we want to look at whatever messages we have, but it is important to remember to take a break.

Now I know what you’re asking. ‘Don’t you have to have a Facebook to be writing this? You are being a hypocrite.’ Well yes and no. I had to write this for my journalism class and part of the grade is liking and responding to other people’s stories, and in order to do that I had to swallow my pride and create a Facebook account.
