Face the Future: Embracing Change in New Environments

Happy Spring Semester! While many of you may be entering the workforce this summer or awaiting yet another fall semester here at LCCC, a lot of us, including myself, will be graduating and transitioning into a new school to continue our education elsewhere.
Whether you’re headed across the country or staying here in PA, change can be hard and scary. As an early-college student myself, I still live at home and have never left my small town for more than short vacations, so I frequently wonder what it will be like for me to move away.
Many of us haven’t yet experienced that level of independence, so it can seem intimidating at times, and it’d be wrong to say that it will be easy. There will be challenges and tribulations along the way, but that’s how we grow. I think that the most important part of going through a big change, like moving away, is to embrace it.
Get out of your comfort zone! Join all the clubs you can and spend everyday meeting new people. You will be exposed to so many people from so many different walks of life and that alone will teach you so much. It is more than okay to feel homesick and it’s important to remember we’re all in the same boat, everybody around you is just as scared.
The key to taking on new experiences is to take advantage of them! Moving away and going to new schools is more than just a change of address, it marks the start of a brand new chapter in your life full of new opportunities and changes. This is a huge change in our lives, but that’s a good thing! So go out there and make the best of it!
