Fall Into Fiction

During this time of year we find ourselves indoors often due to the cold of the environment. As the temperatures drop, we find ourselves indoors more often, seeking enjoyable activities to do at home. One great way to pass the time on chilly days is to curl up with a good book.
Snuggling up nearby a warm fire wrapped around with a blanket while reading a book may sound a bit cliche, but it’s still a great way of passing the time. However, some individuals may struggle to find a good book to immerse themselves in. But fear not; I have some recommendations to help kickstart your reading journey.
My first recommendation is Maya Angelou’s “Mom & Me & Mom”. This memoir explores the renowned poet's complex relationship with her mother, Vivian Baxter. It delves into Baxter’s abandonment of Angelou during her childhood, shedding light on the struggles and resilience that defined their bond. This book is a captivating read, especially for fans of autobiographies, as it offers deep insights into love, loss, and the journey toward understanding one's family.
Another story I recommend is “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien. This well-known tale follows hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is persuaded to leave his village to help the wizard Gandalf and his companions recover their stolen treasure from the dragon Smaug. It’s an engaging and expansive book, perfect for those who enjoy fantasy stories filled with rich narratives and imaginative adventures.
My final recommendation is “Sisters” by Raina Telgemeier. This graphic novel serves as a follow-up to her autobiographical work “Smile”. In Sisters, Telgemeier recounts a long road trip to Colorado, exploring her evolving relationship with her sister, Amara. It’s a heartfelt and relatable story that captures the complexities of sibling bonds.
As colder months arrive, it's the perfect time to cozy up with a good book. Whether you choose Maya Angelou’s “Mom & Me & Mom,” embark on an adventure with Bilbo Baggins in “The Hobbit,” or enjoy Raina Telgemeier's “Sisters,” each offers a wonderful escape from the chill. Reading brings warmth and new experiences, so grab a blanket, pour some tea, and dive into a great story this season
