If you’re looking forward to the NHL all-star game this year, let me stop you now from looking. This year, instead of the NHL having an all-star game, they have decided to host a new tournament called the Four Nations Face-Off. Four Nations is a tournament between Canada, the USA, Sweden, and Finland comprised of the “best” NHL players.

The Four Nations Face-Off is just the shake-up the NHL needed since the all-star game gets a bit old. Players have purposely skipped out on it and taken game suspension so they don’t have to go. The American Hockey League's all-star game was a better product than the NHL’s one. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching the best players, but the thrill of cheering for the USA and awaiting the old-time rivalry of USA vs Canada? I’ll take that any day over the hardest shot and shot accuracy that occurs in the all-star games.

The first game had everything you want out of a hockey game. The first goal was scored on the powerplay by Nathan Mackinnon. Who are his helpers on the goal? Oh, no big deal, just Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby. The only other chance you can get all of those all-stars together is in the Olympics, and the NHL made the decision not to send their players for 2028. Instead they are doing a World Cup of hockey idea, so you will still be getting the best of the best.

The  NHL hit it out of the park with this tournament. I’m excited to see Auston Matthews, Adam Fox, Jake Oettinger, and Chris Kreider just to name a few who will be representing Team USA. All in all, let’s go Team USA, and happy four nations, everyone!
