Groundbreaking technology is literally floating through the air. Students are starting to rely heavily on the use of artificial intelligence (AI). While many would agree that the possibilities are limitless, experts warn that it has the power to negatively impact education.

Professors  at LCCC have different perspectives.

“It can be very powerful, but (students) should also be very careful,” said Pete Sabino, Digital Media and Design Lab Coordinator.

Many students could get in trouble using it to cheat on tests and projects.

“ It could be a drawback,” said Tayler Stakes, an adjunct professor at LCCC and Media Production Manager at Timely Care.

Sabino suggests that the pros and cons of AI, as well as how to use it properly, should be taught at a young age.

Experts at Walden University think AI can be biased when it comes to students.

“Artificial intelligence is only as knowledgeable as the information it has been trained on,” says the Walden University website.

Not every professor feels this way. Some argue that these new tech advances aren't all bad news.

“I do think it will help students learn faster,” said Stakes.

AI could make visual learning more fun and easier to grasp in terms of studying, and many agree that the creative opportunities are endless.

“I think the creative side of AI will better suit students,” said Sabino.

Stakes agrees.

“It will help it by allowing the user to spend more time thinking creatively,” he said.

Walden University also thinks it can better allow students to personalize their learning.

“By analyzing student performance data, AI-powered tools can determine which students need support to improve their learning experience and the best ways to help those students,” says the Walden website.

In sum, experts agree that AI technology presents endless possibilities. Users should be careful, however, and weigh the positives and negatives.
