Members of the Men’s Volleyball Club are ecstatic to begin their second year as an official club team. The team is looking to establish itself as a true contender against other schools.

Last year, the men's club team was awarded a second-place finish in the Lehigh tournament. This year, they made the playoffs in Kutztown’s tournament and finished third at the Lafayette College tournament. However, this year, they have set their goals much higher.

“We want to bring home a win at one of these tournaments,” said Edward Popa, President of LCCC Men’s Volleyball Club.

Reuben Smith, Treasurer of the club, has a similar mindset.

“We want to win two tournaments, have a schedule for practices and games, and set up and run a home tournament,” he said.

Smith has the utmost respect and belief in his team.

“We have become very good with how little time we have had,” he said. “LCCC played and competed against other colleges way bigger than us.”

The members of the Volleyball Club share a “common love for the sport,” says Popa. This has been the driving force behind their success. Their closeness and team bond have helped them perform on the court. The players on the current team are also competitive with each other since some were former teammates or rivals.

Right now, the team is planning to practice two to three times per week. They work on simple drills for the basics, simulate in-game situations, and look to grow as individuals as well as a team. The help they received from LCCC’s Women’s Volleyball Team has greatly improved their skills.

While the team has become very competitive, Popa says, “We are looking for new club members to join, people who have high-level experience to keep the club going strong.”

As the LCCC Men’s Volleyball Club prepares for a competitive season ahead, passion will drive their success. The overarching goal is to increase the popularity of men’s volleyball to one day become a household sport.
