In a world where raising a child has become increasingly more expensive and, in turn, birth rates are falling, the percentage of couples adopting or purchasing pets is rising. Pet parents looking for healthy, homemade treats for their furbabies don’t need to travel far.

Located on Hamilton Boulevard in Allentown, The Dining Dog & Friends is a whole foods only pet market offering a variety of foods and treats. They’re open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

According to their website, they offer everything from soups and stews to cakes and cookies in our pet bakery.

Currently co-owned by Risa Krohn and Ada Aparicio Limon, Krohn shared that the original idea for the whole foods pet market came from her partner Althea Seeds, who had passed away a few years ago. Krohn believed in the dream and watched as it evolved, and continues to evolve, with Limon stepping in to continue the dream and legacy.

Limon mentioned how the store is just offering a different, healthier way to look at the health of pets, and how better food equates to a longer, healthier life.

The Dining Dog’s fare ranges from the typical products you would see at most pet stores, to carefully crafted pupcakes and animal friendly soups. Customers agree that The Dining Dog is an excellent place to visit if you have an animal in your family.

“...What we originally opened the store for was to educate the public and help the animals… as much as we can. And to do whatever we could to support them,” Krohn said.
