Safety First: Driving and Parking on LCCC Grounds
William Marks | Writer
Driving is a common commodity in daily life, especially for LCCC students, faculty, and staff who pack the campus parking lots.
Every day, LCCC Public Safety officers patrol the grounds, ensuring that people are safe on the roads and not driving recklessly.
“Most accidents on campus are very minor and are often attributed to human error and/or being distracted,” stated Eric Minnich, Safety/Emergency Management Coordinator.
If students or faculty are involved in an accident, Minnich recommends that those involved contact Public Safety, or 911 if it results in serious injuries or fires.
“Our Public Safety officers are trained in first aid and can assist any injured parties,” Minnich said.
Parking is an important part of commuting, and there are lots designated by signs for students and faculty/staff. Since they have different needs, schedules and requirements, having separate lots helps accommodate everyone while keeping the flow for students normal. It also helps with parking management, allowing Public Safety to monitor the lots more closely.
According to Minnich, it’s important for new students to register their vehicle and returning students to make sure their vehicle information is current. Students can register their vehicle through the Public Safety Office, located on the first floor of the Student Services Center, or on the LCCC website.
