Take a Break: There’s More to LCCC Than Classes

Although students on their academic journey should focus on their studies more than anything else, it’s crucial to prioritize rest and relaxation. According to onlineschools.org, if a student doesn’t take breaks when necessary, their academic performance can decrease, and they may even experience serious health concerns.
LCCC offers students numerous opportunities to unwind. The game room in Berrier Hall has pool tables, allowing students to gather with friends and play a match of eight-ball. For students who prefer to relax alone, the Rothrock Library is a great option. Students may not realize that they can check out best-selling fiction in addition to the usual academic texts.
Some students may benefit from a rigorous workout regimen instead, which can be accomplished in the fitness center located in Berrier Hall. Students with an ID have full access to the treadmills and weight machines.
LCCC student Justin Arias prefers physical activity to unwind from his studies.“What I do specifically would be either go outside, run around so I can blow off some steam from the stress,” Arias says. “Because I see stress as energy. So the more stress you have, the more energy you have. So what I will do again is just go outside, run for a little, move around, and stretch so I can brush off all that stress/energy.”
Student worker Christopher Ortiz also considers the weight room to be a good place to relieve stress. However, he also finds that the Counseling Center, located in the Student Services Center, is beneficial but underutilized on campus.
“I think a lot of students may not use the Counseling Center, and while that may not be a fun activity, it’s definitely a de-stressor just to be able to express the stresses that you are experiencing,” Ortiz says.
These are just a few of the resources available. Students can also take advantage of a variety of clubs and organizations. Overall, while academic studies are important, it’s equally important to take necessary breaks to give the mind a chance to rest and recharge.
