The upper level of the fitness center

LCCC offers so many clubs and opportunities, it’s hard to keep track. One of the main facilities that students may not know about is the fitness center located in Berrier Hall.

Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, the gym is available to all students and staff.

The bilevel health center contains equipment that will target all muscle groups so students are able to achieve their desired results.

Basketball player Robert Johnson, a sophomore at LCCC, has consistently used the gym twice a week after his classes for the past three semesters.

“Since then, I have put on 15 pounds of muscle and my vertical jump has increased by eight inches,” he said.

Students should never feel uncomfortable or judged while using the gym, and the staff at the fitness center do their best to make sure this does not occur.

Sophomore Kayla Nuss plays volleyball at LCCC and also works for the health center. She comments on the “super friendly atmosphere” and how helpful other students are.

Nuss notices when “...somebody will be working out incorrectly and somebody will come and help them out which is awesome!”

MaryAnn Rush Wallace, LCCC’s athletic director, claims to see “...a decent amount that go…” She said that the college’s sports teams utilize the gym intently during the season and preseason. Wallace also recognizes that timing may be a struggle for some students but does her best to make sure that the gym is open long enough for all students to enjoy.

Another benefit of the health center is that no membership is required. While outside organizations charge up to $25 a month, LCCC offers free gym access for students. Upon entering, students must sign in using their ID number. Once completed, they are able to begin their workout.

LCCC has provided a variety of classes and services to train your brain. Now it is time to utilize other resources and train your body.
