WXLV Provides Resources For All Students

Robert Thomas | Writer

At the southeast corner of Lehigh Carbon Community College’s (LCCC) Schnecksville campus lurks a small, but mighty, digital media and design lab. The lab’s various resources are free to use for all LCCC students.

WXLV used to be only a radio station solely made to air songs, however there have been many changes over the years that allow the building to be of use to a wider demographic of people.

“WXLV has always been the radio station for LCCC,” Peter Sabino, the Digital Media and Design Lab Instructional Aide, states. “And it was only a radio station for the longest time.”

In 2017, the building layout was altered and multiple Mac computers and drawing pads were added for more intricate assignments. There are virtual reality headsets with a gaming system for streaming, as well as a projector for any student to use.

The WXLV building also has an audio production studio. The website for the WXLV Digital Media and Production Lab states, “The studio utilizes professional equipment to create high-quality audio recordings, whether it be music, voice-overs, sound effects, or anything in between.”

Students like Casper Diaz have been able to fully explore everything there is to offer in the audio production studio.

“The environment is very welcoming and comfortable,” said Diaz. “They have a lot of interesting items, like their music studio and podcast area. It is a fun place to be.”

Students can schedule time at the WXLV station from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the weekday. Any LCCC personnel can walk in and begin using the equipment.
