Xanadu Wants You!
Madison Smith | Writer
Are you a writer? A photographer? An artist? Do you have pieces you wish could get published, but don’t know how? Xanadu, LCCC’s literary magazine, is requesting submissions from any and all artists who attend LCCC.
Xanadu is run by students taking Creative Writing each semester. The course is overseen by Anne Ryan, Associate Professor of English, who says that the magazine offers a unique perspective from the student body.
“I think [Xanadu] is an accurate capture of what LCCC students are thinking about and what they care about, what’s important to them and how they choose to express themselves,” said Ryan. “How they see the world and reflect that back through writing, poetry, and art.”
In the past, Xanadu held multiple events each year to promote the magazine and recruit new writers.
Xanadu’s Scary Story Swap, an annual open-mic event hosted by the magazine’s editors, will be held Wednesday, October 23 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in ARC room 201. All LCCC students are welcome to stop by and share some scary stories.
A member of Xanadu’s PR team, Sarah Schlough, has been working diligently to prepare for this year’s Scary Story Swap.
“I’m really excited to be a part of this and see what everyone has to share with us,” said Schlough. “We’re still in the midst of planning food and decorations, but I think we’re gonna have a really good turn out.”
Ryan is also looking for students interested in the magazine to take her Literary Magazine Practicum course. Students taking the class will play a role in editing this year’s issue of the magazine and will be a part of the printing process.
Any students interested in taking the course in the spring should email Professor Ryan at aryan@lccc.edu.
Students interested in learning more can visit xanadu9.wixsite.com. Xanadu is always accepting submissions to be considered for the magazine or the website. All submissions can be emailed to xanadu@lccc.edu through an LCCC email account
